  • Why You Should LOL

For thousands of years, we have all heard that laughter is the best medicine. Whether your problem is physical, mental, or emotional, it is good to remember what Mark Twain said, “Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.” I know that even on a good day, I love to laugh, and I love to hear the laughter of people I care about. Today, many professionals are finding that laughter is literally what the doctor ordered.

  • Training Hacks of a Triathlete Champion

I am always grateful for the opportunity to learn from a winner, someone who has demonstrated measurable excellence. Recently I had the privilege of interviewing local triathlete champion, Rebecca Youngblood. As you probably know, a triathlon is a race that involves swimming, biking, and running….grueling, to say the very least!

While we may not be training for a triathlon or any athletic competition, each of us has an arena in life that we seek to exemplify measurable excellence, whether it be in our homes, in our businesses, in our communities, or in our relationships.

  • Grateful for Gratitude

One thing I love about Thanksgiving is seeing people sharing what they are most thankful for. This year, I think what I am most thankful for is…gratitude. That may sound weird, but practicing gratitude has changed my life! Scientific research has conclusively shown that practicing gratitude can boost your immune system, lower your blood pressure, decrease anxiety, make you more creative, productive, likable, and happy! Practicing gratitude doesn’t cost anything, can be done anywhere, and takes just a few minutes.

  • The Science of Hope

In many churches this past Sunday, they lit the Candle of Hope to signify the beginning of Advent. If you are a person of the Christian faith, hope is what Christmas is all about…But hope isn’t reserved for religious circles. It seems that people have always felt that hope is an antidote to the evils of the world. And now that science is on the side of hope, you might be surprised at what two decades of research has found out about this four letter word.

  • Heart Health and Positive Connection

As you are probably aware, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. What you may not have heard is that a lack of positive connection has the same detrimental health effects as smoking and excessive alcohol use! What if there were something you could do in just a few minutes per day that would help you dramatically improve both your cardiovascular health AND your ability to generate positive connections with others?

There are exciting research studies that show how meditation—specifically loving-kindness meditation—has a direct and measurable impact on our brains and our hearts. (Read More)

  • Stop Over-Delivering

What happens when you over-deliver all of the time? Earlier this year John Maxwell shared some of the common sense that can seem to fly in the face of the “always over-deliver” wisdom. In addition to training us, John has stepped into the role of a mentor with his certified coaches. Becoming one of his coaches has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. He counselled us – “You cannot deliver your best 100% of the time.” Sometimes we make the mistake of confusing the principle – giving the best you have to the people you serve – with the practice of intentionally designing your work for sustainable excellence.
