Why Detox?

Detoxing is a current buzzword that simply means eliminating toxins from your body. But why do you need to detox?

Why Everyone Needs To Detox

According to the CDC, over 80,000 chemicals have been introduced into our society since World War II. These toxins are consumed daily in our air, water, food supply, cleaning supplies, personal care products, plastics, and highly processed foods. Regardless of how “clean” you eat or live, you can’t escape exposure to toxins. Fortunately, our bodies were created to metabolize and eliminate toxins, mainly through the liver, kidneys, lungs, and colon.

Your body is always seeking to keep you healthy and goes to elaborate measures to compensate for the continual assault brought against you. As a matter of fact, your body is so good at running interference, that many times you don’t feel the damage as it is happening. However, we all have a toxic tipping point where our body’s detoxification systems become overwhelmed. This toxic overload is linked with chronic inflammation and hormone imbalance, leading to many other ailments.

Toxins Cause Inflammation

If you Google “chronic inflammation” you will be amazed at the litany of ailments and diseases listed: coronary artery disease, rheumatoid arthritis, some cancers, allergies, headaches, digestive disorders, sleeping problems, and many more.

Toxins Affect Your Hormones

Additionally, toxins are hormone interrupters and can have adverse effects upon our reproductive, neurological, and immune systems. Even the slightest imbalance effects our mood, how we sleep, how we cope with stress, whether our skin is clear, the size of our appetite, where we store fat, and even what foods we crave!

The Simple Health Detox

As a wellness advocate for over 30 years, I have tried dozens of detoxes for a variety of reasons and I can tell you that they are not all created equal! As an RN, I appreciate evidence-based research, products, and programs and am a natural skeptic for one-size-fits-all cures, but I do believe that there are certain behaviors which could benefit almost everyone who uses them.

Gently eliminating toxins while letting your body rest, recover, and rebuild is beneficial even if you intend to go right back to your previous eating and lifestyle habits. However, if you are looking for an even more impactful change – one that will allow you to gain a new awareness of your body and what it needs to function at peak performance, as well as the ability to create new habits that will keep you feeling great – then our Simple Health Detox is a great vehicle to take you there!

Why Even Celebrities Are Detoxing

Today, some of the most popular reasons for detoxing include: weight loss, stress reduction, hormone balance, improved digestion, sleep enhancement, increased energy, and decreased inflammation. Though the motivation and method for detoxing is varied, most people have the same expectation – they want to see results and be able to sustain the improvements they experience from the detox. Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow are excellent examples of focusing on whole food nutrition and healthy detoxing.

All Detoxes are NOT Created Equal

However you may have heard of the celebrities who “detox” to lose weight for a red carpet event, only to gain the weight back plus more after the detox is over! Starvation and deprivation detoxes are counter-productive. When detoxing, I think it wise to use a system that mimics the natural system our body uses to make corrections. It should be slow and gentle. It should be long enough to rest your system and nourishing enough to rebuild it. Additionally, the products used should be of the highest quality and purity, enhancing the detox process, rather than increasing your toxic load.

Is Detoxing Complicated?

Some otherwise excellent detoxes are too intensive and disruptive for most busy people to take advantage of. While many of us would like to take a complete break from life to improve our health, waiting until that becomes possible would mean missing out on the extensive benefits that come from making small, manageable choices in a guided program like the Simple Health Detox.
