Desk Vacation Challenge
Today my heart is at the beach but my body is at my desk. So when my Fitbit reminded me to move - I got up from my desk, closed my eyes and took a mini mental vacation to my favorite beach.
As I took a few slow deep breaths, I could feel the sand between my toes and the sun on my face. I heard the pounding of the surf and even the noisy seagulls. After a couple of minutes, I felt some of my tension and stress melt away. I was able to get back to work with a better attitude and more energy. (I may have even gotten some sun!)
Our brain has a difficult time distinguishing between things that happen in our imagination and things that really happen in our life. So we can use our imagination to take us to a place of peace, beauty, or adventure…whatever we like.
Why not take a mini vacation the next time you feel tension building or your energy lagging. Just visualize a beautiful place that holds positive emotions for you and breathe away your stress for a few moments. The more you allow your feelings to emerge - the more positive benefits you’ll receive.
I think I’ll go to Tuscany tomorrow!
